For the second year, Nitida Wines hosts CellarBake showing off Cape Town’s best baking vendors paired with Nitida’s Durbanville wines.
At round about 11 a delicious feast of desserts and a few savouries are brought to display in a long tented area. Wine bottles accompany every dish. In the middle of the venue sits a long table with kids bouncing along from sugary treats and families laughing with their morning glass of wine.
Sugar crumb trails lead way to fluffy meringues, red velvet cupcakes, granadilla cakes and pork belly bites. The best of Cape Town’s bakers are showing off. Nitida’s Matriarch MCC matches chocolate truffles, the Sauvignon Blanc accompanies a salty sausage role and the Wild Child goes along with carrot cake, all viable excuses for breakfast, brunch and lunch.
In the background Newton & Co folk rocks in plaid shirts and dark denim with the sounds of an upbeat fiddle. The atmosphere is country charm for local families on a Sunday out and the day, well it just sparkles across the pond.
Cellarbake, in its second year, is now a tradition and worth the short excursion from the Mother City, with beautiful views accompanying the drive.
Next year, order tickets online, then pick up a cup of Truth Coffee Roasting and lounge outside in the Autumn sun, indulge with wine and decadent goods, then grab a Las Paletas popsicle for the way out (go for watermelon and mint).
